Don't Be A TikTok Star, Be A Musician On TikTok!

What’s up y’all, Harkos Here.

“I'm not trying to be a TikTok star, I'm trying to be a musician.”

I don't know how many times I've heard some variation of this. Whenever I'm talking to artists about how to grow their fan base, and I mention a content creation strategy, they always hit me with something like this. And to be honest, I understand what they are really trying to say. And that is, that they don't want to feel like they are putting on an act in order to get fans, or followers on social media.

Gain fans, entertain them, make money, and live a great lifestyle making music.

That's the formula for success as musician of any kind. However most don't want to do what is necessary in order to make that happen. On top of that most have a misconception of what some of these tactics really are.

In order to run a successful content creation strategy, you need to have one piece of entertaining and engaging, short form content, posted to all the social media platforms ,everyday.

Immediately people think that I'm talking about doing all the trendy dances and gimmicks for attention. But what I'm actually saying is far from that.

I'm talking about entertaining your fans with content that they will actually enjoy, and that also speaks to who you are as an individual, and a musician.

The core of a great content creation strategy, is that you are entertaining your fans with what they expect from you.

For instance, if you are a conscious HIpHop artist, your video content needs to visually express those hard-hitting lyrics., and also have that, “street life”, city landscape in the video.

What you don't need to do is; be a trap artist, and your video looks like something that would be on a Marilyn Manson video.

You have to be on point with your content, and have it express you as an artist and speak to the music.

“I’m just gonna put the music out and let the art speak for itself Harkos”

Another ridiculous line that I’ve heard more times than I can count. And every time I hear it, I say to them, “if a tree falls in the forest, and no one sees it, does it make a sound?”

Meaning that if no one hears your music, then it can’t say shit!

Just because you put amazing music on the streaming platforms, or even have a badass music video on Youtube, that doesn’t solidify your success.

You Have To Go Get It!

The key to getting the success in this Entertainment Industry is to ENTERTAIN PEOPLE. Like it or not, if you make music, you’re in the Entertainment Industry.

So the overall strategy is simple. Entertain people until they are begging for ways to support you, then have those sales channels in place. Just like I spoke of in last weeks email. (if you missed that one, head to the blog page of Apex Music System’s website HERE)

After that Execute The Strategy!

Post daily, short form, entertaining content that speaks to your music and what you stand for as an artist. There is a reason that TikTok is the #1 music discovery platform, because great video content highlights great musical content. So get out there and create that great video content!

Have a good one
